App Store & Google Play
The number next to your install button is a conversion lever
Nobody reads your app's reviews. They read the number, then decide. Moving it from 3.8 to 4.5 changes install rate more than any screenshot ever will.
You are probably here because
One of these sounds familiar.
- A bad release tanked your rating and it has not recovered.
- Your in-app prompt fires at the worst possible moment.
- Nobody replies to app reviews, so every complaint stands unanswered.
App Store & Google Play in detail
What the stores actually reward
Both stores show an average rating right beside the install button, and both weight recent ratings more heavily than old ones. That cuts both ways: a bad month hurts fast, and a good month repairs faster than people expect.
Review responses are public on both stores, and on Google Play the reviewer gets notified. A good reply frequently turns a one star into a three or four star edit.
What we do on the stores
- Prompt timing fixAsking after a successful action instead of at launch or after a crash.
- Rating recovery planVolume targets and timeline to move the visible average back up.
- Review responsesOn both stores, with the Google Play replies that produce rating edits.
- Release monitoringAlerts when a release starts dragging the rating, while it is still fixable.
- ASO supportScreenshots, description and keyword work on the listing itself.
- Monthly reportingRating, volume, response rate and install conversion.
How recovery runs
First, prompt timing. Most apps ask at launch or after an error, which is the worst possible moment. Asking after a completed, successful action changes everything.
Then replies, on every review. On Google Play this directly produces rating edits. On the App Store it changes what the next reader sees.
Then listing work: screenshots, description and keywords, so the extra install intent your better rating creates actually converts.
Questions
App Store & Google Play FAQs
Faster than most people expect, because both stores weight recent ratings more heavily. With prompt timing fixed and replies going out, visible movement in three to six weeks is normal. A very large historical review count slows this down.
Only where they break store policy, such as spam or abuse. For everything else, the route is replies and fresh volume. On Google Play a good reply often gets the original review edited upward, which is the closest thing to removal that actually exists.
On Google Play, directly, because the reviewer gets notified and can edit. On the App Store it does not change that review, but it changes what every future reader sees on your listing.
